My GSD,Lulu,is 8 years old and the picture of health.She eats Merrick,Eagle Pack Holistic and several other premium foods. For the last several days,she has been urinating more frequently and has had two accidents in the house during the night.I took a urine sample to the vet today and her specific gravity was very low.The vet suspects kidney failure and Lulu is going in for bloodwork next week.She is otherwise acting fine – eating, active, good weight,etc. I have had dogs with renal failure before,and most of them were in their teens when diagnosed and did not last long. I did have a mixed breed called Lilac who was diagnosed at age 9 and lived to be 13,which is what I am hoping for Lulu.I really do not think I can bear to lose her right now. Lilac,( the mixed breeed) ate Hill’s KD and Cycle Senior ( this was back in the late ’80′s) and did well on them. I have been looking online for alternative treatments and diets and wonder if those of you who have had experience with canine renal failure can recommend any herbal/dietary treatments to help my dog should she have renal failure.Is there a dog food or homemade diet that you have had good results with? I am open to trying anything,because Lulu is so very special to me,she is just such a great dog and is so loyal and sweet;she is my shadow. Any advice will be appreciated and if you would star the question so that others who have had or do have dogs with renal failure can see it,I would appreciate it.Thanks in advance.

she took a urine sample and said i had numerous of red blood cells in my urine, which meant i probly have kidney stones, what i am wondering is that she put me on an antibiotic for 10 day’s will this get rid of the stones or will i keep having episodes of this pain the pain lasted for 6 hours straight and never let up until she gave me a pain shot. How often will i have this episode if i do not get rid of the stones.
OMG i was not asking for a cure, i was just simply wondering if anyone else had been through this and if the pain will come back or if the medicine worked. Don’t need smart a** remarks from people who has not been through kidney stone attacks.

I had a 7mm kidney stone lodged in my ureter. It was removed 12 days ago by scope and a stent put in. That came out, by scope in dr’s office, 6 days ago. I am still having spasms, pain, frequency and burning before/after urination. I gave a urine sample 3 days ago and today the culture came back negative for infection. What is causing the problems, and how can I alleviate them. I want to resume my normal life!

He went to the urinary specialist.And he had a scan .They found two large kidney stones.When he urinates it burns bad.The urine sample was normal.He also had his prostrate checked it was Ok.He has pain in his one testicle..No blood when he urinates.Not cloudy either.Pain in back too.
Any ideas.No infection in test results Thank you.

I recently experienced my first kidney stone. While I have a urine sample and the hospital has a blood sample, I lost my stone while retrieving it from a filter. Will my urologist need it to diagnose me?
