I went to the hospital last night because I was having contractions. Well come to find out they were brought on by a UTI. My 3rd one this pregnancy. They also found protein in my urine along with high blood pressure "the start of preeclampsia" and last but not least crystals in my urine "they are calcium" My question is how fast can these crystals turn into a stone? The reason I ask is I have been having this awful pain in my right side around the kidney area, and it hurts to the point that I want to cry.. It is starting to get uncomfortable when I go the the bathroom as well.. The doctor ordered me to do a 24 hour urinalysis, to see what all is really going on, and how bad everything is. I just dont think I can handle this pain for that long of a time. Not with me being pregnant.. Please anybody what can I do to help comfort this pain? "30weeks pregnant"

I am having lower back pains and I’m starting to worry. I’m prone to kidney stones. I had 6 of them in May of 2005, and I actually went septic from them blocking my urter. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and I had to have 3 seprate surgeries and a stint put in my back. I am 9 weeks pregnant, and my ob/gyn made me stop taking prenatal vitamins due to the calcium in them. I am 6’1" and I have a condition that I over produce calcium anyway. Im really nervous about getting them during pregnancy. Has anyone had them and what did they do to help with the pain? I am deathly allergic to codene and most of the drugs related to it. Any body know anything on the subject?

Hi. So I just went through a kidney stone last week, and it was awful. Anyway, while I was doing some research, kidney stones were described as "one of the worst pains a person can feel." I was pretty sure that’s what giving birth was supposed to be like… right?

So, for those women who have experienced both, is it similar at all? The level of pain, I mean. This is my first pregnancy, and I’m just curious.

It started in the middle of the night about 5 days ago. I thought it was something I ate, I was up almost all night long…I NEVER thought that sleeping on the bathroom floor could feel so comfortable :)
Anyway I didn’t have any problems the next day until the evening. Then the same the following evening. Well Sunday was completely different, it was all day long (on and off).

It carried on yesterday so I went to the Dr. They gave me some category B anti spasm pills and said (after having a listen to my tummy) that it was gas. Possibly IBS (which to my knowledge I have never had). They also said that this level of pain was not normal for most pregnancies.

You can imagine how I am feeling about pregnancy right now…if the next nine months are going to be about me writhing in agony on the floor…well lots of bad words!!

But seriously, the pains are killer, I feel like I am in Alien and some ‘thing’ is gong to split my tummy in half. It is comparable to kidney stone pain. The pills are not working and they have ruled out an ectopic pregnancy.

I know there are some of you who have been or are suffering with the same thing, is there anything, food wise, natural, chemical, anything that you can recommend that can help??

I should also add that I am a walker and also into the yoga, eat a non-junk food diet and lots of water (not a soda fan).

Thanks in advance for any help and light you may shed!!
Additionally, I was also told by the DOCTOR when I went on Monday that the gas would in no way harm the baby. Nor would the anti spasm drugs she prescribed me.
Thanks to those so far for the HELPFUL advice!

I already have them and the pain is terrible, I have been medicated but I’m still scared.
