I have a little problem of whether or not to take calcium pills. I’m Chinese so I dont have a lot of dairy foods in my diet. A lot of older chinese woman have very fragile bones so my doctor has always been pushing me to eat calcium pills.

However, my dad has kidney stones and that means I could get it too. I drink very little water a day, maybe 3-4 cups, sometimes less. Once in a while I try to drink more but I usually go back to my old habits. Calcium pills would probably make it more likely for me to get kidney stones because so many minerals will have to pass through my kidneys. I know I could drink more water and I do try but I usually forget after a while. Also when I drink more its around 5-8 cups so it might still be a little low.

So what should I do? Eat calcium pills and fear kidney stones or not eat them and fear breaking my bones later on? Choose one!

I asked this question yesterday, but decided to ask again to get different opinions from different people.

My view on the cereal that it can be somewhat risky to eat if you already have a balanced diet. The cereal provides 100% of different vitamins and minerals in one serving, but what happens when you go over the daily requirements? Excess vitamin C for example can provoke kidney stones, and vitamin A in large amounts can have negative side effects. This is an amateur conclusion, but what do you think about it?
