ok so i have a kidney stone (small) and i’m in some pain, i had to go to the ER and they told me to drink plenty of fluids till i pass (piss) the stone out myself, and they prescribed me a pain medication. i heard its hurts like hell to pass a kidney stone. is this my only option? to drink water till the stone comes out. how pailful will that be? and how long does it usually take to pass a stone? is it possible to pass a stone with little to no pain?

I have an 18 yo cat. He has serious hyperthyroid, high blood pressure, arthritis, and his vision is bad. His kidneys are OK but on the downward slide, and his liver is iffy.

Every time I go to the vet they say, "Well, he’s not getting better. Let’s adjust his medications, and bring him back in 3 weeks–plus I’d like to add another medication." These visits and tests run me close to 0, and of course they never have a clue what the medications cost. I’ve been through this several times now.

Well, he’s not going to get "better"–he’s 18! What will all these adjustments really achieve, besides costing a fortune and denying me the chance to really deal psychologically with the fact that my cat is slowly dying. But they only write the prescriptions for a few weeks at a time, so I have to go back.

Can I/should I say I don’t want to do any more blood panels, and insist they just renew the prescriptions he’s on for some reasonable period like 6 months?
How can I say this? His quality of life is still OK, I just want to pick a medication level and stick with that until it’s time to put him down, and just monitor things like his weight to see how it’s working.
I didn’t say I wanted to put him down, I said his quality of life is OK now. But they’re talking long-term treatments on a cat who doesn’t have a long-term ahead. His numbers don’t have to be perfect if he’s not going to live long enough for it to matter.

I was also diagnised enlarged prostate for which also medicines were given. After two days of taking medicines i realised that i am having problem in ejaculation and i feel that something is stopping inside during ejaculation. Before going to the doctor i would like have information as asked in my question.

On Wednesday the 7th of January I was tripped at work unleashing a previously unfelt kidney stone in my right kidney. By Saturday night, the 10th the pain increased. By Sunday afternoon I was in the emergency room at our local hospital. Hours later I was transfered by ambulance to a major hospital. The next afternoon I was transfered again to another hospital where I was to spend the next 8 days. The stone finally passed from the kidney into the ureters and bladder early Monday morning about 1:30am in a tearing pain. They are still inside my bladder, although I am finally now home, waiting to pass fully out. By the way, the employee who was not following OS&S has most likely lost his job as my back is also injured. Great! Not! And how much did the 3 ambulance rides? 11 days in a private room in hospital? 3CT scans? 3 x-rays? Nuclear body scan? An IVP kidney/bladder scan? 17 blood tests? Physio? Medication and extras cost???? NOT A THING!!!! I love our health care system.
