My mother was recently in the hospital for kidney stones, no worries they got them out with some laser treatment, but since she got them, does that increase my risk of getting them too when I get older?

I recently had surgery to laser blast 2 kidney stones and had stents inserted into my uriters. The urologist also said I had a lot of stones higher up in my kidneys he could not get to with the laser. He suggested shockwave treatment. I will find out in a few weeks at my follow up what the plans are. If I do require this method is it painful? and do they put stents in after the shocwave treatment?
