My dog’s vet is currently out of town and about a month ago he had bladder stone surgery. They changed his diet completely and now he is on specific food to keep his pH levels in his urine normal to prevent the stones from coming back. All of the sudden he starts urinating clear. He stopped eating store-bought treats and drinks a lot of water and eats peas for a treat. I talked to a different vet who I am not familiar with and she took his urine yesterday and said his urine is extrememly diluted which is bad. Then she kept going on and on that he could have kidney failure, a tumor, or some kind of hormone disease!!! I was like hold on a minute here!!! He just had a full blood work up done a month ago and all of his organs are working fine and he’s totally healthy besides the stones that were removed. I think she hasn’t had too much experience it seemed. So after looked in his chart and noticed this, she had a change of heart on all the tests she wanted to perform. I told her, listen, I am not a vet whatsoever, but don’t you think it’s kind of a coinsidence that my dog starts urinating clear after being on this new diet? I feel like he is not getting the other nutrients he needs. My dog used to eat meat everyday (Beneful Ready Meals) and now hes like on a canned diet and only drinks water and eats peas! So she looked at me and said I’m going to have to call an internist and see if this is normal from the food. Then she sent me home! How do you tell someone their dog could be diseased and then send them home!?! She was supposed to call me today and never did! So now I’m worried and concerned because I don’t know what to think or believe and my vet doesn’t get back until next week. I searched this clear urine problem online and I get mixed answers. I read it’s good because his body is flushed out and then I read it’s a sign of kidney problems because the kidneys are not flushing the urine out properly. So now what? I can’t sleep and this is my only hope to find an answer. My Aunt’s dog recently died from kidney failure and it was so tramatizing to me, so ….PLEASE HELP!

My boyfriend has a kidney stone at the moment. He recently had an operation to remove a stone from his bladder and a stone from his kidney. They got the bladder stone but they couldn’t find the kidney stone.
About 20 weeks ago when he was first diagnosed he was told the kidney stone was 8mm, now apparently it’s 7mm.
Though i’m not ready to trust the hospital since the whole 20 week thing has been nothing but a series of massive cock ups on their end. They didn’t even give him diet advice.
So, what i would like to know is…
Is it possible for a kidney stone to shrink?
What can he do to break the stone down?
What can he do to avoid more stones? This is his 3rd stone.

Hello–

My 3 year old Sheltie was just examined today and has 3 to 4 bladder stones. She was given an antibiotic and "Hill’s PRESCRIPTION DIET s/d" to delove the stones over time.

I’ve been doing some reasearch and have found some "herbal" treatments that claim to disolve the stones and are pills NOT food.

Do theses work?

Below are two exaples:

My dog has a bladder stone, and I took her Monday to have surgery to have it removed. They did blood work, and found her kidneys were not functioning. Her original Bun was 41, and 4 days later it was 93. The vet said if they put her under she would not wake up. She said x-rays showed she had 1 kidney stone that was at the opening of the duct. Is there ANYTHING I can give her to dissolve a kidney stone?

We took her to the vet on Sat because we thought she had a urinary tract infection and they found a bladder stone (not a kidney stone).
I got a call with the urinalysis results today (Mon) and she does have a UTI (we started her on Abx on Sat) they are sending the urine for culture
On Sat the vet said something about changing her diet or possibly surgery for the stone.
Today a different vet called the UA results to us and said she would talk to the vet that saw our dog on Sat and call us back on Thurs with culture results
I asked about changing the diet and she said wait til we talk on Thurs
Why should we wait?
I want to help my dog ASAP!
What diet changes should we make?
She is currently eating Dick VanPatten’s Natural Ballance vegetarian Formula
