Despite the doctors’ insistence that I can pass these kidney stones without a problem…?
I’m still bleeding out every couple days.
Since I’m on Coumadin for a genetic blood disorder, I’m drinking 2-3 bottles worth of tap water per day–in hopes to keep myself flushed and hydrated.
Is there anything else that I can do to reduce the bleeding or help with the repair of my kidneys?
I heard that drinking certain kinds of juice helps, but these these stones are annoying the hell out of me–just bouncing around like a billard ball. (And yes, it DOES hurt to pass them!)

I’ve had kidney stones in the past; I was a cocaholic (Coca Cola, not cocaine!), and someone told me that could have been the causative factor; I quit drinking Coke and haven’t had any more kidney stones, thankfully. The pain was excruciating, I know, so I can empathize with you!
Anyway, my background is medical. I assume that you are under the care of a physician who is aware of your blood condition and the fact that you are on Coumadin. I think that the water consumption is probably your best prescription. Cranberry juice is often recommended for urinary tract infections, but I don’t know whether it is indicated in the case of kidney stones.
I was hospitalized for mine and had a cystoscopy for the first because my M.D. had neglected to write an order to strain my urine; I had actually already passed it as was the result with the second. Do you know whether yours are calcium stones or uric acid stones? Mine, I think, were uric acid, tiny, and easy to pass, though painful. There is a procedure where ultra sound is applied to the area to pulverize the stones. Has your Urologist considered that treatment? Also, the purpose of the cystoscopy, though unnecessary in my case, is to retrieve the stones if they do not pass naturally.
My wishes for your improving health, and I do hope that you will soon be rid of the stones. See about dietary changes if you can which might prevent future stone development.
They’re supposed to give you this injection that’ll literally take the pain away in less than 30 seconds. That’s all they need to do, and then you end up peeing out the stones later.
they can also do ultrasound to break then up, but that isn’t your question. Lots of water is the best thing for any kidney problem, usually. It should be more like 8-10 bottles of water, though. (Assuming we’re talking individual sized bottles, not gallon jugs)
I don’t know about the bleeding, since you’re on Coumadin. That’s a question for your doctor or hematologist. From what you say here, I’m concerned about a doctor who thinks the best option for you is one that risks hemhorrage. You might want to get a second opinion.
I think your best decision should go to see the doctor in a hospital. Don’t listen to the rumour and nonsense words from others! Kidney stone is very common modern disease and easy to cure without any risky to live.
