Is it possible to actually be addicted to chocolate?
I have loved chocolate all my life and indulge everyday. Recently however, over the last 6 months, I have had 9 kidney stones which are EXTREMELY painful. Several doctors have told me that chocolate contains a large amount of oxalate, which is contributing to the kidney stones. My stones are the calcium oxalate type. Chocolate, coffee, tea, spinach, among other foods are strictly prohibited from my diet. Yet no matter what I do I cannot give up chocolate. I really think I’m addicted to it. I still have 4 stones to pass per last cat scan, yet I won’t give chocolate up. This all sounds stupid, but is it really possible to be addicted to chocolate?

As this news shows, cocoa contains a powerful mixture of health-enhancing antioxidants. Most people don’t know it, but cocoa is a rainforest herb. Technically known as Theobroma Cacao, the cocoa bean has been used for thousands of years by indigenous tribes in South and Central America. Cacao is used to combat parasites, to counteract the effects of snakebites, and as a general antiseptic. It’s a whole lot more than just candy. To read more about the history of this plant, visit the cacao page at RainTree Nutrition, one of my most highly recommended online sources for information about rainforest herbs and medicinal plants. What’s interesting about this article is that Western researchers are beginning to recognize the powerful healing properties of this gift from nature. What Western science has yet to widely acknowledge, however, is the fact that chocolate also contains psychoactive compounds that create genuine chemical addictions while substantially altering the mood of those who eat it. When people say they’re addicted to chocolate, they are, in fact, correct. Let’s hope the FDA doesn’t declare chocolate a drug and try to regulate it.
im addicted too dogg
U can have addiction to ne thing, i thinks. I was addicted to pizza 4 a while, I was using it everyday for a while
Yes you can be addicted to chocolate. It has several complex chemicals in it all of which tough your pleasure centers. It actually mimics the endorphins your body produces just like morphine does. Just keep trying, you can break the habit
the tetrahydro-beta-carbolines in chocolate can make it addctive. it is all about self control and willpower
yea i seen a episode on dr phil where you can be chemically addicted to it
DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are emotionally and mentally addicted to it, obviously. It would be possible to be physically addicted, too, as it contains caffeine. Sugar can be addictive, too. Ask your Dr. if there is something you can safely substitute for your chocolate.
YES chocolate contains a chemical very similar to caffeine but its not caffeine, still addictive, if you try adding something that is caffeinated (like soda or tea) it may take the edge off the withdrawals.
I sat and watched my gf eat about 3-4 lbs of chocolate last month, in about an 3 hours. I don’t know how she does it. I like chocolate but she LOVES it!
If you must have it then eat dark chocolate only. When it doesn’t have all that other crap mixed in with it you will reap better health benefits from it.
yup its possible to be addicted to chocolates coz i was once addicted to it!..
