Kidney Stones and I am 24..what is causing them?
Started a little over a year ago, when I had my first kidney stone. Was ahwfuly painful and eneded up in the ER…I didnt have another one till 6 months ago. And after the first one they said it was just a fluke thing I wouldnt have anymore….but This past year I have found out that I have pcos and borderline diabetes and border like blood pressure problems, also on going fevers and skin infections, along with stomach/bowel problems. About 4 months ago I started having more kidney stones…one about every other week, some are very painful. Went to see a urologist, they told me to go on a specific diet and start taking calcium with all food I eat, cut out all meat other then chicken and fish and turkey, and up my fluid intake. They did two 24 hour urinalysis scans and they saw my calcium was low in my urine and I am only putting out half of what I should urine volume wise. But I have had atleast 6 stones in the past 4 months, and I am in the process of passing another one and I think something else needs to be done. I believe something else is going on with me and this cant be normal. Can anyone give me some insight or stories of there own? Help

I just suffered from my 1st kidney stone just last month. Im 20.They are so horrible. I cant even imagine going through what you are. According to my Dr. Calcium is what causes them in some people. I was told to cut back on calcium intake. If you pass one stone that may mean that you have several other stones still in your Kidneys. These will not cause pain until they enter the tube that goes into your bladder. An ultrasound will most likely show if you have more stones in your kidneys. You must drink plenty of water. This will help them from forming, just make sure it is purified water. Where I live in Indiana we are known as the Limestone Capital of the World. Many drs around here believe that with all the limestone in the ground here, drinking regular tap water makes everyone more likely to get stones.
What I had done to remove stones from inside my kidney was some type of surgery where they shrink the stones with a laser type thing. Its actually just ‘blasting" them into smaller pieces making it easier and less painful to pass. They had inserted a tube like thing so the stones would pass through that instead of jabbing me as they were coming out.
I would seek a 2nd opinion. If you continue to have kidney stones, they must be treated. You must insist that the Drs treat you right. If you need pain medicine then make sure you mention that. I ended up in the ER with mine as well and was admitted to the hospital because the size of it and it took too long to pass.
Just remember to stay hydrated. Triple your intake of water. This will help the stones pass faster.
