What happens when you try to pass a stone in the kidney that is too big to be passed?
My mother-in-law has a large stone in the kideny, but due to a bad heart she can not have surgery. I’m trying to find remedys to dissolve a large stone in the kidney, but I’m a bit worried that if something "works" and she tries to pass it, but it is too big it’ll cause more problems than if she just puts up with it.

There really isn’t a way to activily pass a kidney stone… it either comes out or its too big to come out… there is no way to force it. She should consult a urologist, they deal with those kinds of issues and can perscribe a drug that will allow the best possible conditions for passing the stone (our office uses something called Flowmax) or he/she will suggest either laser lithotripsy, or shock wave lithotripsy. If the stone is to big to pass and it blocks the ureter (the tube from the kidney to the bladder) it will cause A LOT of pain and she will have to get something done. Tell her to trink LOTS of water and reduce the soda intake. Hope this helps Good Luck
I hope she’s seen a doctor. She won’t be able to put up with it indefinitely. If it stays there it can cause infection and damage to the kidney. Maybe she could have lithotripsy…have sound waves blast it apart.
I think I have read somewhere that there is a procedure suitable for SOME people that dissolves the stone with a laser, but its not suitable for everyone.
I’m sure her doctor will explore all avenues to help her….
If her health precludes her fom surgery, I can’t imagine she could handle the pain of trying to pass a stone too big to pass.
Maybe if she’s hoping it will go away, and is to afraid to find out more, you could get more information for her to take to her doctor.

When a stone tries to pass that is to big it can get stuck and even possibly lead to kidney failure. You should not do anything to force this issue.
That said surgery is not the only option. There is treatment that breaks up the stone with sound waves making several small pieces that can safely be passed. This is something to ask the doctor about if it has not already been discussed.
Hmm… I bet you anything there is some form of surgery that can conquer it. Doctors are VERY good at what they do and saying "we can’t do the surgery, her heart is too bad" is usually not enough for a good doctor. That doctor should have given her information about other things she can do to get rid of it.
I read something from John Hopkin about B6 and Magnesuim dissolved the stone in the kidney. I don’t know the amount of dose. I don’t recall the year, but it is published. I thought had kept the article for myself because I lived through the nightmare of the kidneystone getting stuck. I lost it when I moved. I went through three painful days and many big huge painful fluid shots in my viens. The worst ones were the nurses that kept missing my viens. I was in a lot of agonies.
