		<description>It could take up to a month or more but then you run the risk of kidney damage if you have ongoing obstruction from the stone (this is what causes the pain; not JUST having a kidney stone in general).  If the stone is in the kidney, depending on the position in the kidney, it may NEVER pass. Some people live their whole lives with stones without a problem.  If you are having pain, please contact your doctor (even after hours) for pain medication and make an appointment with a urologist.  Sometimes they can give you an alpha blocker like Flomax to help relax the ureter and bladder and make passing the stone easier.  You should be pushing fluids and drinking at least two to three liters per day when trying to pass a stone.  If you have history of stones, you should always drink AT LEAST 100 ounces per day of fluid (not all water necessarily but not all the SAME fluid either).</description>
