Are there any other alternatives to get rid of kidney stones other than surgery or lithotripsy?

My father had a history of kidney stones for the past ten years. He was gone through two procedures before to get these stones from his kidney out using the lithotripsy option, which was described to be very painful but it did not get rid of the problem. He has again diagnosed with another kidney stone and the doctors suggested lithotripsy again. We are very concern and we are seeking other alternatives other than this same procedures that have been conducted before. The stone is about 8mm, considered big. If you have any answers or suggestions as to ways or other alternatives other than the two procedures above that are safe and less painful, please let me know. We need answers as soon as possible before he has to go through surgery in the next couple of weeks and the doctors are calling to schedule an appointment for his surgery already. Thank you so much. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon, and hopefully you have helpful answers and suggestions to my concerns.

Once the stone has developed, there is no way to make it go away unless it passes. 8 mm is kind of big to pass on its own, and if it gets stuck and blocks the kidney, he could have more trouble.

If he is seeing a Urologist, they know the best way to remove the stone based on its size and where it is located. It would be best to follow their advice.

Your dad should ask the Doctor what type of stone it is. Kidney stones can be composed of different things (uric acid, calcium oxalate, and struvite), and prevention depends on what type of stones he has. Most important, he should stay well hydrated. Drinking lots of water keeps the minerals in the urine from crystalizing and forming into stones.

What kind of water does you father drink? I know someone that had a similar problem, he started drinking high quality drinking water and it helped.

usually you can tell high quality drinking water by a low temp at sorgente, the altitude of the sorgente and the TDS

Definitely he need to drink lots of water. Another thing is cheyenne pepper. The cheyenne pepper can help to pass the stone. I know people that said so based on their personal experience. Hope this helps!
