My 70 year old grandmom has suddenly developed swollen foot. What do you think this is?

I would like to know the reason for this swelling. Also tell me what to do about this. Is this dangerous? She is a diabetic patient. She had a stone in her kidney which is cured now. Am quite scared…….
I would really appreciate your help.

If she’s a diabetic, It could be she’s retaining water, But I really would have her looked at,

Have her keep her foot elevated till you do.

Oh boy. She needs evaluation URGENTLY. She may have a deep vein thrombosis, or a foot infection. Take her to her doctor immediately.

If its only one foot, look to see if it feels hot if its hot and also sore, a blood clot is likely and she should seek immediate treatment.

If its both foot or the foot isn’t hot and sore, then immediate medical attention may not be as urgent, but she still needs to see a doc to figure out the cause. .

The proper solution depends on the cause, which can be the heart, kidneys, or worn-out veins. Heart and kidney problems need prescription drugs.

The #1 thing to do is eliminate salt, and its also probably a good idea to avoid high amounts of protein in the diet. Other home remedies are listed at the link
