Besides diet, what’s the best natural way to get rid of kidney stones in a cat??
My cat had magnesium crystals in his urine and a bad bladder infection. He was put on a very strict diet and two different antibiotics. Everything at this point for those troubles have thankfully cleared! He went to the vet the other day and come to find out he now has 3 small kidney stones. The vet says to keep him on the diet and the stones should eventually dissolve. However, I hate leaving him like this. Is there any natural things I could do to help him dispose of these kidney stones?? I know kidney stones are painful for humans and I would hate to think that he’s in pain. My little buddy has been through alot these last few weeks and I want to do what’s best for him and help him get better in any way I can. Please help. You are very lucky to have caught it, most cat owners don’t find out until it’s too late to do anything about the stones.
You can increase fluid intake which will help the stones pass by feeding him canned food (please follow the diet as the vet suggests) or pouring the liquid from the canned meal into the water to flavor it, as a result making your cat drink more water because of the taste.
There is a litter additive that detects any blood when your cat goes in his box, this will help you and your vet judge his recovery/health status. You can only get this from your vet. I don’t know the price, but your vet should be able to tell you.

Thank heaven you caught it early. KEEP him on the diet!! It’s the only way to keep him stone-free for the rest of his life. Just like humans, once a cat gets stones, he or she will forever be prone to more stones. Furrball, my moms cat, almost died from a large stone and kidney infection. He went into acute renal failure. We had to use something called a Gif-Tube which is inserted right under the skin and super-saturate him with water to "jump-start" his kidneys. Several months of treatment later, his kidneys are almost back to 100% but he is still being checked for enzymes and protein in his urine.
My prayers are with you and kitty! My mother feeds Furrball a prescription science diet, it’s expensive but it works. Even the "urinary tract" health non-prescription foods are too high in certain minerals that will make him prone to stone formation.
My cat has been on Feline CD since 2000 and he has had no problems since his initial blockage. I know how you feel, He was in such pain before he passed the crystals. He is great now and he is 12 years old. It is CD for life I guess.
