anyone have kidney stones before?

i have an appointment with a urologist tomorrow because a ct scan showed that i have 2 large stones in my left kidney and 1 that is 12mm in my right kidney. i will obviously not be able to pass these myself. i’m scared to death of what they are going to do to me. i have heard about the ultra sonic treatment, i’m wondering if that is painful and if they will be able to knock me out first for treatments. i’m almost 30 years old, have had 2 c-sections, and i’m still scared to death of doctors. anyone have an experience with a large kidney stone they can share with me? thanks.

During lithotripsy (the ultrasound), you’ll be sedated. It’s not bad.

Should that fail, then cystoscopy is done under anesthesia.

i have stones in both kidneys and i undergo Lithotripsy every 5 weeks. They give you gen anesthesia and shock the side of you and break the stones up. You can get anywhere from 3000 to 10000 shocks and its a big help

To my knowledge there are three options- (1) You’ll be prescibed pain pills and pass the stone. (2) If the kidney stone is to large to pass, it may have to be surgically removed. (3) There is a certain chemical that can dissolve kidney stones.
