Can kidney stones cause diahrrea and other stomach problems?

Yes, the pain of passing kidney stones can make you feel nauseous, with vomiting, diarrhea, sweating profusely and kills your appetite; the last thing in this world you’ll want is food. This is really SERIOUS PAIN; I’ve passed about 18 kidney stones in my life, have had fractures in my shoulder and leg, plus gave birth vaginally without anesthesia [it was a forceps delivery]. Of all those, the pain from kidney stones was the worst of them all. It felt like I was being stabbed, like my insides were being ripped apart. I just wanted pain relief, as soon as possible. But even 150 milligrams of Demerol [a strong narcotic analgesic similar to morphine] didn’t provide much relief.

Well……typically once a stone leaves the kidney, it will cause nausea and sweating. I guess it’s possible that some people may react to nausea with diarrhea rather than vomiting…..

I personally, and others I’ve read about, also had stomach pains during that time. And anytime it moves I do have some stomach pain.

    Is that what you mean?

Yes! It can. The initial pains I felt were like pre-menstrual cramps in the lowest part of my adomen + the feeling of having eaten really bad food. They only came after my period so I thought they were related. Then my back (where my kidneys are) started to feel really sore as though I had a bad knot in my back or I pulled something. Inevitably one morning I woke up in agony. The pain was so bad I vomitted and that was followed by diahhrea for hours. Drinking lots of water seems to help. That was a few weeks ago and I haven’t felt much pain until last night. The same nausea, vomitting and diahhrea (mostly liquid). I once read that the pain can be the worst in the morning because the stone(s) move around when you’re sleeping.

I’m getting a CT scan next week and I recommend you do the same.
