How do you know if you have a kidney stone?

My friend has an acyst located in between her suspended rib and kidneys.

When I had a kidney stone last year, I was awakend by a severe pain radiating through my entire right side. The pain was most severe in my lower back, and I threw up five times.
When I went to the hospital, they tested my urine and gave me an x-ray and sonogram to verify their hypothesis that I had a stone.
Before all that, however, the ER doctor lightly tapped my lower back, which sent me FLYING off the bed. She told me that if I ever suspect a stone in someone, to try tapping their lower back. If they have an involuntary reaction, it’s possible that they have a stone.
Lastly, renal pain causes vomiting, so if your friend is throwing up.. she should definitely get this checked out.

    Hope I helped!

Pain on affected kidney side and or also down the back. Could also be urinating blood . Its worse then child birth as far as Im concerned. Having passed or had removed 11 stones removed in a 3 year period. Get it checked and yes it can be fatal if left to move in to a duct to the kidney.
