I've eaten too much salt in the past 2 days. How can I avoid kidney stones? I'm scared to get them.?
I got my wisdom teeth out and for the past 2 days had about 5 cans of chicken noodle soup which is a lot of sodium. Should i drink a lot of cranberry juice and water? Any ideas would help!

I just got my wisdom teeth taken out as well, and I wound up with DRY sockets…. I went to my doc today and he told me that dry sockets were right up there in the pain factor with kidney stones! So I just thought it was ironic that you mentioned you got your teeth out…
And my mother is a doctor and she told me that there is no correlation between kidney stones & salt so STOP WORRYING! And why don’t you try something else to eat, break up the monotony!
ya tons of water
You don’t get kidney stones from the sodium in salt. Most kidney stones are calcium stones, in particular, calcium oxalate.
I would drink plenty of water, at least 1/2 an ounce per pound of your body weight, per day. That will flush out any excess sodium you ingested with the soup, and will make sure you stay properly hydrated. Lack of water is why many people get kidney stones.
I wasn’t aware of a relationship between kidney stones and sodium consumption but– a good natural diuretic is hibiscus iced tea. You can find tea that is just hibiscus but hibiscus is often the first ingredient in most herbal tea bags, so I’d recommend making up a couple liters of herbal iced tea and it will help you get rid of the excess sodium.
Drink lot of water. Eating too much salt may cause too much calcium to stay in the urine. There is a treatment called Shock wave lithotripsy, whereby the stone is crushed. Once the stone is crushed, a person can pass the smaller pieces.
I had a lithrotripsy done. It broke a small piece off the big stone I have, so it didn’t help me. They want me to have surgery now. I am refusing the thought of letting them in through my crotch, but the other option is through my back, and I don’t even know if they are willing to do the latter. I’m trying that tea with the 3 Chinese herbs. I had found that info in a few web sites before coming here.
I don’t know whether sodium chloride and kidney stone have related each other. But I can tell you some precautions. Drink two to three liters of water per day is the only solution to cure the kidney stone. This will increase your urine output and will help in prevention of kidney stone formation. Kidney stones can be dissolved by citric acid so drink lemon juice and eat as orange and carrot etc. Drinking soda is also a good way for it contains phosphoric acid, which acts by eroding the solid matter. Avoid foods that may cause irritation to the kidneys__ alcoholic beverages; condiments and pickles; vegetables like cucumber, radish, tomato, spinach, rhubarb; those with a strong aroma such as asparagus, onion, beans, cabbage, and cauliflower; meat and gravies; and carbonated waters.
I saw your blog and being a medical student I can suggest you this. Renal Calculi or kidney stones are formed due to the excess amount of calcium in the urine and to those doesn’t consume enough water. So you no need to worry about sodium salts that you have consumed as the iodinated sodium salts for essential for proper metabolism. But don’t make it as a habit of consuming more sodium salts often as it will result in blood pressure. Drinking plenty of water will sort out all kinds of problems. And Uriflow is the ready made medication to kidney stones. I wish you all good health and good life.
Hey dude, don’t worry the sodium salts are not the essential factors for the kidney stone formation. Let me tell you some ways of kidney stone formation which I had gathered from our family doctor. The calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate or struvite trapped in the urinary tract with its high concentration can lead to stone formation or the uneven acid balance can be the reason or the lack of essential substances can be the cause. So don’t worry about your kidney stone right now. But don’t make it as a habit to consume more sodium salts as consuming more may lead to blood pressure. This is my kind advice. Thanks!
You should be ok, it takes a lot more than two days worth of salt in take to get kidney stones.
