What % is considered complete kidney failure?
My mother has 11% kidney function and is being prepared for dialysis. We are not receiving any input from the doctors as to just how sick she is and how long she will survive after starting her treatment. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks
She suffers from high blood pressure, thyroid problems, weak heart, depression, stomach ailments and many more. She is currently taking approximately 26 tablets a day for all her problems. Doesnt look promising does it?

A person can not live in complete kidney failure, so just as it says when the kidneys stop working completely the heart then fails as well. Your mom’s condition is considered chronic kidney disease or CKD and if her glomerular filtration rate is 11% then she is in stage 4 or 5 of chronic kidney disease and stage 5 is the last stage and requires dialysis. Survival rate depends on if there are other disease processes as well but survival rate does decrease as kidney function decreases. Ill pray for you and your mom! You can read more about CKD here….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_stage_renal_failure
She has a poor prognosis but saying she only has 6 months would just be a guess, she could live 2 years or longer. Just prepare for the worst but enjoy the time you have left.
