Can this hopsital really get away with this!?
my husband went in several months ago to the ER (he was in extreme pain)for a colon issue and got a cat scan. They found no problems with his digestive system or anything in the cat scan..they told him he should see a gastroenterologist . So he did a few mths later (after insurance had kicked in) and the results oft the cat scan were faxed to the gastroenterologist(sp?) and they told my husband that the cat scan showed that he had kidney stones…
The hospital said NOTHING about kidney stones!! Isn’t it there job to tell him if something was wrong!?!
Someone said that because thats not what he went in for that they didnt HAVE to tell him about it…
The gastroenterologist said the kidney stones shouldn’t get any worse if my hubby changes his diet. so they aren’t an immediate threat. But he could have been working on fixing it MONTHS ago!!
Am I wrong…but I think they should have told him!! Can I get the in trouble for that!?! lol

This is true, and all the hospitals know that they do make 10% mistakes and do patients more harm than good. The hospital I work for admits to that.
And people on here have been telling me I am crazy for not trusting Doctors and Hospitals!
I had to have an Ultra Sound test done. They could not tell me the results of that test. Instead I had to see a Nephrologist who READ the Ultrasound test results to advise me my kidneys are only functioning at 45% capacity. The Nephrologist sent me to a Cancer Doctor for blood tests to make sure Cancer was not causing my problem. The cancer doctor read the results & advised me my condition was ‘age related’ & I don’t have cancer. Thank God for that part, anyway.
I went to the E.R. with sever abdominal pain a number of years ago, and the first thing the E.R. nurse told me was after asking my name, was: " I’ll bet you have a kidney stone. Can you give us a urine sample?". I did, there was traces of blood, I had no G.I. noises or other G.I. symptoms. X-Ray contrast tests confirmed stones.
Your experience is bad, bad medical care! I think this malfeasance, if not out right malpractice.
Kidney stones should have been the number ONE condition to rule out in a young man with severe abdominal pain. A few simple tests, urinalysis, and simple competent abdominal exam would have made the diagnosis of kidney stones, confirmed by an IVP and ruled out gastrointestinal problems.
A cat scan was gross over-kill and should have been used as a last resort. This is a powerful argument for health care reform and for outcome based medicine.
Get a medical malpractice lawyer to represent you in a suit against the hospital, attending physician, and the radiologist. Make sure the state medical board finds out what happened.
Good luck!
