Does Vicodin help with the pain associated with Kidney Stones?
I was prescribed Vicodin for pain with a kidney stone. Morphine didn’t work for me in the hospital and demerol barely worked. Does anyone know if vicodin will help with extreme pain? I just took 2 as I feel the pain coming on again.

It depends on the degree of help you are looking for. Vicodin is an opiod drug combined with Tylenol, to help enhance the effect of the Hydrocodone. It’s good for moderate to severe pain, but it’s not generally as strong as Morphine or Demerol as a rule- no. I hate to tell you this, but there really isn’t anything that’s going to take away all the pain of a kidney stone on the move. The best you can generally hope for is reducing it to a level you can tolerate, or at least where you can get to sleep. While you take the Vicodin, you need to drink at least 6 or more glasses of water per day, which you should be doing anyway to help move the stone along. Sorry, but passing kidney stones is just a painful business all the way around- women who have given birth often say they’d rather do that again than pass a kidney stone. Hopefully yours will break up in the moving, and that will give you the most relief.
Unlikely anything can help much unless it fools your mind. That pain is enough to make a strong man faint. At least it is transient. Give some thought about what causes such stones. It is a lack of mineral balance. With proper mineral balance, the substance forming the crystals would remain in solution in the urine and not crystallize. Get some good, pharmaceutical grade, balanced mineral supplements.
